The foundation of the "Karatay Sports Centre", a project conceptualized by Karatay Municipality, especially for young people and designed for the new generation, was laid with a ceremony. Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay, who talked at the groundbreaking program of the giant sports investment, which is also the biggest budget project in the history of the municipality, said, "We have fulfilled very important work so far in order to further strengthen the sports infrastructure of our district and to spread this culture to a much wider base, and we continue to do so. In the last 4.5 years, we have brought 34 new facilities to Karatay. As of today, we are laying the foundation of the highest budget investment in the history of Karatay Municipality together. All the best to our youth, Karatay and Konya."

GIANT SPORTS INVESTMENT OF 372 MILLION TRY FROM KARATAY

Karatay Sports Centre, whose construction started in Karaaslandede Neighbourhood, has a construction area of 25,000 square meters. The center will include a 1000-square-meter semi-Olympic swimming pool, an artificial turf field suitable for professional competitions, an 1161-square-meter indoor sports hall with tribune, an archery hall, facilities suitable for indoor sports, administrative offices, athlete and coach rooms, a meeting hall, table tennis, and many other different sports areas.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of Karatay Sports Centre, the total cost of which will be 372 million 222 thousand TRY, Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay, said that as a municipality, they especially value young people.,

Mayor Hasan Kılca,  who underlined that as of today, the 150th project whose foundation has been laid in Karatay has been realized, said: “We have fulfilled very important work so far in order to further strengthen the sports infrastructure of our district and to spread the sports culture to a large area, and we continue to do so. We place great importance on projects for our young people, and we produce projects for them to develop themselves in many subjects such as sports, traditional arts, personal development, life skills, culture, art, education, and technology. On the one hand, we increase the number of classrooms in our district; on the other hand, we realize sports facilities and projects that will contribute to the physical development of our children. Accordingly, we, the Karatay Municipality, have brought 34 new facilities to our district since 2019. In this context, in our district, we bring astroturf in accordance with FIFA norms to all of our schools with suitable areas and to our parks and green belts that we have brought to our Karatay. We are also building indoor sports halls for our schools. Hasan Kılca, who underlined that they revitalized Karatay Belediyespor Club in 2019 and thus Konya and Turkey gained important athletes, continued his speech as follows: "We organize Karatay Summer Sports Schools and have been providing training to tens of thousands of children and young people in many branches. We also ensure that our young people who have talent in their field of interest go to our national teams, especially Konyaspor. In this context, our teams affiliated with our club have achieved important degrees in local, national, and international organizations they have participated in for 4 and a half years."

AN INVESTMENT WITH MODERN DESIGN AND WIDE OPPORTUNITIES

Hasan Kılca stated that they have added another important link to their service chains with the same understanding and sensitivity, and added that the Karatay Sports Center investment is the biggest budget project in the history of the municipality.

Kılca completed his speech as follows: "We are laying the foundation of our Karatay Sports Centre, which is the highest budget project in our municipal history with a cost of 372 million TRY. This is a project that will serve 10–11 neighborhoods such as Karaaslandede, Karaaslan Üzümcü, Çatalhüyük, Selimsultan, Elmacı, Çataltömek, Karakulak, İstiklal, Saracoğlu, and Erler, as well as Meram and many other regions. All the best to our district and our youth. Thus, our young people will have a very nice center with modern design and wide opportunities. I believe that our sports center will make important contributions to the sports of our district and will be a place where new stars of the future will be discovered. With a 25 thousand square meter construction area, our Karatay Sports Centre will have a 1000 square meter semi-Olympic swimming pool, an astroturf field suitable for professional competitions, an 1161 square meter indoor sports hall, Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Karate, Gymnastics, Table Tennis, Wrestling, Fitness, Chess, Archery, Squash, Fencing, and Weightlifting Hall, and many other areas suitable for indoor sports, including tribune, administrative offices, athlete and coach rooms, and a meeting hall. Karatay will continue to stand by sports and athletes today and tomorrow, as it did yesterday, and will continue to raise successful athletes for our country who are committed to national and moral values. Our city and our country will rise on the shoulders of educated, qualified, healthy young people equipped with national and spiritual values. NEW TALENTS WILL BE ADDED TO THE SPORTSMAN POOL OF OUR COUNTRY.

Abdürrahman Şahin, the Konya Provincial Director of Youth and Sports, emphasized that Konya is a city where exemplary athletes are raised and sports facilities are available.

Abdurrahman Şahin used the following expressions: "Our Karatay Municipality has been laying the foundation of a very important project. With the commissioning of this investment, new athletes will be brought to the sportsman pool of our city in many branches, new talents will be discovered, and important contributions will be made to the sports infrastructure of our 2023 World Sports Capital, Konya, and our country. On this occasion, I would like to thank Mr. Hasan Kılca, Mayor of Karatay Municipality, for bringing this important project to Karatay and Konya".

THIS PROJECT IS AN INDICATION OF THE IMPORTANCE GIVEN TO OUR YOUTH AND OUR FUTURE

Hasan Angı, the Konya Provincial Head of the AK Party, also emphasized that the Karatay Sports Center is a great investment for the youth of Karatay, Konya, and our country and congratulated everyone who contributed to the realization of this service.

Provincial Head Hasan Angı stated the following: "This center is one of the best indicators of the importance given to our youth and our future. With this investment, our youth will be protected from heresies, addiction, and all kinds of bad habits on the axis of our values and will be protected both in education and sports. So many beautiful works are emerging in every field in Karatay. 150 works, the foundations of which were laid in 4.5 years, meet with our Karatay. Those who were once able to build a few underpasses in 15–20 years can now come out and talk about many things. Those who are together and cooperate with the formation they call an alliance can get up and talk about national spiritual values. Both our governments and mayors endeavor to do their best for our children, who are the future of our country. We have a progressing and developing country, a developing Konya, and districts with a changing aspect. I hope that our young people who will grow up here will keep our flag flying all over the world, and with that pride, we will say that these facilities are lucky to have been built. I congratulate everyone who contributed to the realization of the facility."

Mustafa Uzbaş, Deputy Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, stated that the foundation of another work of great value that will make a huge contribution to Konya's sports infrastructure was laid and emphasised that Karatay Sports Centre is a highly functional project in every aspect.

Mustafa Uzbaş; "We have equipped Konya with many facilities. Today, our city has managed to become a sports city with its modern bicycle paths, athletics track, Olympic Velodrome, Olympic swimming pools and sports facilities with the best equipment. We have come to these days by working shoulder to shoulder with Konya Metropolitan and district municipalities. We will nonstop continue our efforts in this direction.  Karatay Sports Centre, which will be brought to our city by Karatay Municipality, will add great value to the sports infrastructure of our city and our country. Rising on an area of 25 thousand square metres, this beautiful work will be a structure that our citizens can benefit from in every field with its various facilities. I congratulate Mr Hasan Kılca, Mayor of Karatay Municipality, who brought this valuable work to our city, and I wish all the best."

Latif Selvi, the Konya Deputy of Justice and Development Party (AK Party), who spoke at the groundbreaking program of Karatay Sports Centre, stated that they are happy to lay the foundation of an important project for Konya, a metropolitan city.

Deputy Latif Selvi said, "Sport has been very important in every period throughout human history. In this context, there is a need for places where our children can be trained. For this reason, facilities are very important because national and international achievements are only possible in this way. Today, we are laying the foundation for a large facility that will serve our city, especially our young people in 10–11 neighborhoods of Karatay. I hope that our children and young people who will grow up here will achieve successes that will make us all proud. With this center, we are laying the foundation for today, and many more of our works will serve the present and future of our country.
